About the Event
This is a blended course with online learning available prior to the practical day. We suggest 1-2 days to complete and the material will be available for the 4 weeks prior to 20th April 2023. Post course there will be a quiz and MBN2W analysis exercise available.
Lung clearance index (LCI) has been demonstrated to be more sensitive than spirometry in detecting early lung disease, particularly in cystic fibrosis. Multiple breath washout measurement is feasible in young children allowing longitudinal tracking. With CFTR modulators improving lung function outcomes, the routine clinical use of more sensitive outcomes such as LCI will increase in children and adults. This course will provide training in the practical performance of MBN2W in children and adults and is run by the London MBW Training Centre (Faculty from Department of CF and Chronic Lung Infection at Imperial College London/Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Lung Function Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, London).
Target Audience:
Respiratory Physiologists, Physiotherapists, Respiratory Nurses, Adult and Paediatric Respiratory Specialists, Trainees and AHPs wanting to perform Multiple Breath Nitrogen Washout in adults and/or children.
Learning Outcomes:- Understand basic respiratory physiology of ventilation inhomogeneity
- Know how to perform quality control and calibration of equipment
- Know how to set-up and run an MBW test
- Understand techniques for measurement of LCI
- Understand the clinical applications of LCI
- Know how to present and interpret LCI report
- Hands-on sessions with Multiple Breath Nitrogen Washout equipment (Ecomedics Exhalyzer D and ndd EasyOne Pro)
Costs for course: £400 for ARTP members £450 for non-members
